Management Team

Westgate Pet & Bird Hospital is fortunate enough to have some of the most talented, experienced, and compassionate veterinary staff Austin has to offer. We genuinely care about our clients and their incredible pets, and we strive to deliver the best veterinary attention available. Get to know our team of managers better by reading their biographies below!

Kathy Kent, CVPM (Practice Manager)

As part of the hospital administration team, Kathy works closely with the Medical Director, staff veterinarians and the rest of the team members to keep the hospital running smoothly, while ensuring quality patient care and excellent client service. She believes that as a team, focusing on your pet's well-being will achieve the best results for you, our clients. We want to ensure that you receive the best possible experience before, during and after your visit.

Kathy has a Bachelors of Science degree in Zoology with Veterinary Science Application from Oregon State University and a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Management from University of Maryland. In 2010, Kathy became a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) and joined Westgate Pet & Bird Hospital in April 2016. She enjoys working closely with all of our team members and sometimes you may see her cover a shift as a Client Service Representative or assist a Veterinary Assistant or Technician with patient care.

She has a few pets of her own including Sammy, an Australian Silky Terrier, a rescue Shitzu named Honey, aka “The Princess” and a Golden Retriever by the name of Kira. Kira is a member of the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study Program. This study is the largest, most comprehensive canine health study to identify the nutritional, environment, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer and other diseases in dogs.

When not in the office, she loves hiking, gardening, experimenting in different styles of cooking, traveling, shell and stamp collecting, painting and listening to music.

Joy Bollman, Operations Manager

Joy has been a vital resource for our hospital since 1990! Having been here so long, she understands the importance of every team position and knows every facet of the hospital. As the Operations Manager, Joy helps ensure that the hospital is stocked with the supplies we need to keep your pets healthy. She also oversees the laboratory, hospital maintenance and technician training.

Although Joy is well known by many of our long term clients, she often works behind the scenes. She assists Dr Brandt in keeping our hospital on the fore front of evolving veterinary medicine through research of new pharmaceutical trends and cutting edge medical equipment to provide optimal care for our patients while keeping costs low.

Outside of the hospital, Joy is involved with animals in her spare time, even volunteering to help tame Wild Mustangs. At home, she cares for an extensive family of pets. She has two dachshunds, Emmy and Hazel, a Chihuahua Mix named Moxi, Slick, the Border Collie Mix and a Sengal Parrot named Cecil. Her hobbies, include camping, hiking, fishing, taking photos, woodworking and gardening.

Lucy, Hospital Cat

Lucy has been with Westgate Pet & Bird Hospital since October 2013. Her alma mater is the University of Meow where all the graduates are “big talkers”.

She enjoys sleeping, window view lounging, belly scratches, cuddling, making muffins, eating and having the staff cater to her paw over paw. She also is especially fond of Catnip! After a few nips, Lucy likes to pretend that she is the floor manager. On occasion she will try to sneak out to the main waiting room area and rip open a bag of food. What a terrible case of the munchies!!

When it gets a bit crazy or stressful on a busy day, Lucy is a good therapy cat for the staff. You can probably catch her snuggled up in her cat tree at one of our front windows if you’d like to stop by for a bit of therapy for yourself.
